Fan Experience: Catching Fire

T-shirt:

One of my ideas is selling a t-shirt to fans of the series and people who are looking to get into the series The Hunger Games. This idea comes from the title of the book. The t-shirt will look just like the title of the book Catching Fire. The t-shirt will be bright red color to standout and it will have a picture of a mocking jay and say Catching Fire on it. On the back of the t-shirt it will have their favorite character’s name from the series and a quote that their favorite character said. The character choices will be Peeta, Katniss, or Haymitch. This is a fun way of showing interest in the Hunger Games. This idea will work because when someone sees the t-shirt they will remember Catching Fire since the shirt is a picture of the title of the book. It will also help gain more buyers because it’s pretty much an advertisement of the series, so when people see the shirt and the certain character on the back they might find it interesting and after that they would buy the book. Although this idea could backfire because maybe no one notices the shirt and very few become interested. This is less likely I think because the shirt will be a bright red and it will have a big letters on the back of it which I think will grab people’s attention.

Katniss’s quote will be “If it were up to me, I would try to forget the Hunger Games entirely. Never speak of them”. I chose this quote for Katniss because she participated in The Hunger Games and it was a very tough time because she killed people saw people die and she could’ve died herself. So she is saying she never wants to talk about it again because it’s such a bad experience to be a part of and hard time in her life. This quote will be good because people felt bad for Katniss and how she had to participate in the Hunger Games so they will think back to how she participated in the Hunger Games and how she was brave enough to take her sisters place in it because initially her sister was chosen to participate.

Peeta’s quote will be “I just want to spend every possible minute of the rest of my life with you.” Peeta is saying this to Katniss showing that he loves her a lot and wants to spend the rest of his life with her. I think this is a good quote because people who are interested in the series like the love between Peeta and Katniss. Another reason it will work is because when girls see this quote they will think it shows the love of somebody, therefore they will buy it because it has love in it along with drama, action, and adventure.

Haymitch’s quote will beBrr. You two have go a lot of warming up to do before showtime.” Haymitch is talking to Katniss and saying how her and Peeta need to warm up (love each other more) before going to the Capitol because the whole Capitol thinks there in love even though there not. At least not till the end of the book. This quote will work because people will want to know who the quote is about.

Below is an example of one of the t-shirts:

The setting of Fahrenheit 451 is a little bit unclear but its in a town, on the street, in a house, etc. I like that there is various setting because i like different settings and how they change throughout the book. Bradbury didnt really describe the settings very well in this book which I disliked. But the various settings that were presented kind of made up from the less desriptive settings. I couldnt visualize the setting very well because Bradbury didnt describe them well. I think it would have helped a lot and I would have understood the book better if he described the settings more.

The imagery inside Catching Fire is very good because you can imagine things very well. You can imagine settings and situations very well because it is described very well. An example of imagery that is well described is "I hop down and stumble along the track behind him, soaking my slippers with snow, as he leads me beyond the end of the train so we will not be overheard." This shows good imagery because it really describes how Katniss hops off the train and gets soaked in the snow you can imagine her doing that.

Connection and Understanding

I can connect to this book because the movie of this book came out the other day. I saw the movie so I understand the book better now that I saw the movie. Another reason I understand this book very well is because I read the first book of the series which was the Hunger Games. This book led into Catching Fire in which Im reading now.

You can connect Catching Fire to Hunger Games because they are two books in the same series. With the same characters. Also with similar problems as the first one. There not physical problems like the ones in Hunger Games where you had to kill people but more like mental problems and situations with the Capitol.

Setting

The setting of book the book im reading, Catching Fire. Is in District 12 so far Im only on page 40 or so. So I havent gotten into the book that much but another setting is in the woods near District 12 where Katniss and Gale go hunting, gathering, and fishing. Katniss is about to go to the Capitol with Peeta. So there are gonna be various amounts of setting in this novel which I like.

I like multiple settings because it changes the outlook of the book and I like that. District 12 is where Katniss, Peeta, and Gale live. It is one of 13 districts. Peeta and Katniss will soon go to the Capitol. So the setting will change from the District to the Capitol. I am sure there will be a lot more different settings in this novel.

Post 1

Last trimester I read the book Larry Bird Watching. It was my favorite book last trimester because I could connect to it well because I played basketball and Larry Bird is a basketball legend. Another reason I really liked it was because he told me about some strategies to use in baskteball. The writing described a lot but at the same time was very simple and I could understand it very well. Thats another reason I enjoyed reading it.

The setting in this novel was somewhere in the arena wether it was the locker room or the court. Another setting was his house in Indiana or Barcelona, Spain where the 1992 Olympics were. I liked to read about his experience in Barcelona and how he played with all the great players of thye 1992 "dream team" for example Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, John Stockon, Charles Barkley, and more as you can see there were a lot of great NBA legends on that Olympic team. Thats why I enjoyed reading the book. I recommend this book to people who love basketball or just want to know more about the game of basketball.

Post 2

I just finished Larry Bird watching i can honestly say it was the best book I've ever read. I have nothing else to say about this book so im gonna talk about the next book im gonna read. I think im gonna read another biography on another NBA legend his name is Oscar Robinson "Big O". As soon as i start reading it I will post about it. hoped you liked my posts on Larry Bird Watching.

Book Recommendation

I recommend Larry Bird is flying because you learn a lot about him and the game of basketball. I loved to listen to what he said because he knows basketball. Since hes a NBA legend. I also likked it because i play basketball and I can connect to it. Honestly I recommend any sports novel because in those novels the events that happen can happen in real life. Another reason i would read a sports book is because if you read a Biography on a great player you can learn a lot abou the game and learn more about the individual. Another reason I recommend sports novels is because you can connect to them and its fun to connect to what your reading.

Post 2

If you are interested in learning more about Larry Bird and baksetball in general. Watch this video or read Larry Bird Watching it will tell you a lot about him. I think this video shows a lot about him and his personality towards the game. This is a video when he is getting inducted into the basketball hall of fame. Hope you like it.

I am very close to being done with my book Larry Bird Watching. I love it because I can really connect to it. Larry Bird is very preserved in other words I think he is very humble in his playing style I really like that about him. Unlike some players out there are cocky and arent half as good as Larry Bird. He talks a little bit about trash talk in the NBA and how he got his mind off of that in the game and dominated his opponent. It can really help even a baksetball player now because no a days there is more and more trash talking going on everywhere.

Tone and Mood

I dont think Larry Bird Watching has one particular tone it has various amounts of different tones. I think the biggest one would be a direct tone of voice because he talks a lot about himself and what he says and does so this is why I would pick this tone over others. The mood of this novel is realy up to you because if your interested in finding out about Larry Bird maybe you have a curious mood so overall its up to you to set the mood. An example of this novels tone is "When I took the head coaching job with the Pacers, everyone kept saying how excited I must be, because I was coming home again. But the truth is, Indianapolis isn't really home for me."(pg. 185, Jackie Macmullan) this quote shows the direct tone that he had and what he was thinking. A particular moment in my novel when Larry Bird swayed my mind when he was talking about how bad it is to be famous because everyones always falling you around it changed my mind about being famous because I dont want everyoe following me around everywhere I go. Larry Birds tone was very persuasive so it swayed my mind even more because it was persuasive.

The general setting of Larry Bird watching is in the basketball arena. Wether its in the locker room or on the court. Of course its not the only setting. He talks about his 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, Spain, which was cool because he talked about the Dream Team and how they all competed against other countries. Another setting was in Indiana at his college. Or even at home in Indiana. There are various settings in this novel which I like. The following picture shows Larry Bird and Magic Johnson in Barcelona.

Larry Bird Watching

Im gonna post a video on Larry Bird its gonna show some of his all time greatest highlights. It will also show what other people said and thought about him. Including Magic Johnson and some of his teamates. This video really does show he was one of the greatest of all time because he has amazing game winning shots and amazing plays he makes in games. It also shows he was one of the best because other great players were talking about how good he was. Hope you enjoy the video.

Reading Skills

Im getting through the book Larry Bird Watching im actually about 3/4 the way through and I have a couple predictions on what will happen next. About where I am in the book right now he is talking about how hes coaching the Indiana Pacers and all the battles he had with other teams in the playoffs, and a couple of his coaching strategies during his coaching career. My prediction for what will happen later in the book is about how he became the owner of the Pacers and his retirement from coaching I think he will talk more about his family. A text to world connection is I am sure there are plenty of old basketball legends that tell there life story about basketball in person today. My text to text connection is this book and The Blind Side they both tell about an athletes life and how they got to the top. My text to self connection is I know what it feels like to want to be good at a sport because I played basketball and I still play football but I can connect to him in a lot of ways and thats a big reason I read athletes biographies is because I like to connect with them.

Larry Bird Watching

Larry Bird Watching is a biography that tells you about his whole career. I can connect to this because I watched a biography on Michael Jordan so I can connect to both things because they were both basketball players and went through the same things. Also because they were both one of the best to play all time. Its a very easy novel to read especially if your a basketball fan. You will like it because he tells you about his startegies about being a player and coach and can probably smarten youmore as a basketball player. If your willing to read it.
Characters

Larry Bird develops over the course of the novel into a kid who grew up in a small town in Indiana to one the greatest who ever played the game. He really works on his game in High School and Indiana St. which is where he attended college to become one of the greatest of all time. Larry interacts with a lot of people over the course of his career inculding Magic Johnson also one of the best to play all time. He was very good friends with Magic he shot commercials with Magic a lot. He also made a movie with Magic called Space Jam but they were only in a couple scenes its a really good movie. His relationship with Magic advanced the plot because he talks a lot about how he played against Magic and played with him on the 1992 dream team, also because he started to talk about all the commercials he shot with him.

Larry Bird Watching

Larry Bird develops over the course of the novel into a basketball mentor/player. He begins at the beginning of the story as a high school player playing in a small town in indiana. He begins to get better and smarter as a basketball player over the novel. During the course of the novel he had problems with some basketball players or coaches. Most of the time he was very social and friendly and had lots of frineds with the people around him. He really turns into a kid with a dream to play proffesional basketball player into one of the best players of all time. It really is a great inspirational book to read.

Theme and Summary

The independent novel I chose was Larry bird watching. I would say the theme of this novel is "never give up till you get your general goal" he started as a kid in Indiana and he became one of the best to ever play this is why I chose this thematic statement. It is a biography telling the reader about Larry Birds life story. He begins playing high school basketball and starts to realize that he isnt that bad at it. He goes on to play college basketball for Indiana St. University. He talks about all the players hes played against in his career and 1992 dream team (USA Basketball Olypmpic team in 1992) possibly one of the best USA teams of all time if not the best. He then talks about his coaching carrer with the Indiana Pacers and some of the players he had on the team while he was coaching them. He talks about his coaching strategies. If you are a basketball fan i recommend you read it because it is a great biography about one of the best who ever played the game.

Michael Oher develops over the course of the novel by becoming more comfortable within the Tuohy family. The plot advances because Michael starts to play football and the plot starts to base on Michael playing football more than him having trouble in school or as a person, although he still has trouble with those things. Michael starts to interact more with the Tuohy family because he becomes more comfortable with them, and starts to think of them as his family because they take care of him and they adopt him eventually. Within the course of the novel Michael develops really into a homeless teen to one of the best athletes/high school prospects in the country, almost every team in the country wants to recruit him. Another way he develops within the course of the novel is he becomes a better person and becomes more social with people.

The article I choise is about the 2 main storylines of the article and it briefly describes both storylines.
